the Network

A network created by and for LGBTQ+ North Dakota.

On a cold winter prairie night in late 2022, a group of LGBTQ+2Spirit North Dakota citizens gathered virtually to discuss communication, connection, and community across the 701 (our area code). This conversation brought together disparate conversations that have taken place in homes, coffee shops, bars, and gatherings such as the 5th Annual North Dakota LGBTQ+ Summit held a month and a half prior.

How do we communicate locally? How do we connect across the miles? How can we be a community of progress in a time that feels so regressive in the state and region we call home?

Out of those questions it seemed the starting point was simple… we need to keep the networking going beyond events and gatherings such as the annual summit. Out of this our network was born. Not another organization or institution, but a NEWTORK: people and groups connecting, communicating, advocating.

We’re here. We’re Queer. And this is OUR home too.

The premise is simple: the pandemic taught us that 21st Century technology can connect all ages and colors of the rainbow across the globe, so we can surely connect across the 70,705 square miles of the northern Dakota. From OutWords (our e-publication) to virtual get-togethers and email/social media updates on events and issues impacting our community, the hope is that this network will bring people together and will bring much needed change.
